Bungie Design Lead M. Chung explains, “We believe that requiring players to opt-in to chat leads to more friendly environments. What this update means for players is the chance to test out this new chat feature with its two different options. The first option is Fireteam Chat and will be signified by the speaker icon in game. This option has been available since launch and allows players to speak to the Guardians within their pre-formed parties. It also includes players that join in orbit before a match is started. The second option is Team Chat, signified by a megaphone icon, and will only be available after the update.
The episode mostly consists of John logging onto Halo 3 for the first time and meeting up with his longtime friend, Vincent, who invites him over to play some Matchmaking. The rest of the episode consists of Matchmaking‘s official Theme Song. Destiny 2 has had a rough time of late, what with players discovering that late-game grinding may very well be a gigantic waste of time , and the general hostility to microtransactions going around these days. Me, though? I love that about it. I never played the first Destiny, so jumping in this year on PC I was struck by how the game looks like a series of sci-fi paperback novel covers, as if some s editions of Isaac Asimov or Robert Heinlein had been brought to life.

You can join a clan, run a few patrols with someone, and then add them to your friends list. One of you can initiate voice communication, and if the other player consents you can start chatting away. These activities are designed to be completed by teams working and talking with each other, so why the all the hurdles to voice chat?
To my mind, the chat system serves two important purposes. First and foremost, it means you must have an actual reason for teaming up with anyone else. Imagine the horror of trying to get six random Plunkbatters to coordinate with each other at any level beyond howling insults.

The primary and secondary weapons consist of recognizable firearm archetypes like assault rifles, shotguns, and pistols, but the different tools that are available allow each member of a four-player team to differentiate themselves somewhat.
After all the hype, it’s fair to say Destiny was a middling-to-major either multiplayer-like matchmaking (which Destiny currently uses for its level, unless you want to go through the faff of forming a party to use voice chat.
The game limits multiplayer interaction big time. It’s no more than 3 parties allowed in an instance at any one time, and that’s where a single person can count as a party. So really how tough does the netcode be when you really just have instance based coop. PVP is basically csgo in space. Not too many people on each team. Only 2 teams. As an aside, as a gamer – terribly displeased with destiny 2.
Huge dissappointment. Mostly because of it’s multiplayer and communicated drawbacks. Not having public zone chat, and even worse not having clan chat in this ostensibly social game is absolute madness. It’s intensely frustrating when I’m standing next to someone in a public area and want to show them a chest or something, and the only way I can do it is to shoot them until they look at me, then shoot towards the thing I want to show.
